Oloroso Sherry Casks
No cask has a more dramatic effect on a maturing whisky.
Like Bourbon, Oloroso casks are heated before they're filled.
However, rather than burn the inside, the casks are
toasted. This produces a much thinner layer of black
carbon than charring.
The word Spanish word 'oloroso' means scented. That distinguishes
it from the much sweeter Pedro Ximenez - Olorosso is
smooth, dark and nutty.

UNIQUE FLAVOURS
To the eye
As it ages, the cask becomes darker and stronger - Oloroso lends
Auchentoshan a deep amber colour.
To the tongue
Oloroso casks give our Single Malt Whisky a heavier body - as
well as notes of fruit cake and toffee. Occasionally, there's also
the hint of struck matches.
